Meet our Doctors:
Mark A. Swickard, D.C.
My father was a chiropractor so you could accurately say that I have been surrounded by chiropractic all my life. At a very young age I saw how many lives my father had changed because of his strong belief in chiropractic. Something stirred in me as a child and young adult when he would tell one of his success stories, sharing how a patient who had been everywhere else turned to chiropractic as their last resort. He was almost always able to help them. It inspired me to want to do what he did, so it wasn’t “if” I would become a chiropractor, it was “when”.
After graduating from Kansas State University with a Physical Science degree, I attended Cleveland Chiropractic College in Kansas City. After graduating in 1988 I joined my father in practice where for 3 years I gained valuable “on the job” experience. I then relocated my practice to Shawnee in 1991 and practiced in the same building until 2007, when I realized a life-long dream and designed and built a new office building. I took great care in the design of our new space to create a relaxing, yet energetic healing environment with the latest state-of-the-art technology and treatment.
From the beginning my practice has focused on treatment of families and children seeking care for optimal health and wellness. In 1996, I furthered my training becoming certified in the treatment of sports injuries and I have always enjoyed working with athletes of all kinds for specialized injury care and prevention.
My wife, Michele, and I reside in Stilwell, Kansas with our 3 children, Riley, Jake and Sam. Having grown up in the Kansas City area I’m very familiar with the home-town environment that Shawnee and the surrounding cities have to offer the residents of our great community. I felt particularly familiar with the strong sense of community Shawnee had to offer17 years ago, which has only reinforced my commitment to positively impact the health of our local residents through a desire to deliver quality care honestly and with integrity.
During my free time you will see me spending time with my family and enjoying my children’s activities. I’m an avid outdoorsman and love a good game of golf.
Patrick O'Reilly, DC:
Greetings! My name is Dr. Patrick O’Reilly. I have recently joined Dr. Mark Swickard at Swickard Chiropractic Clinic of Shawnee, Inc. and would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself.
I am originally from Kansas City and grew up in the small town of Peculiar, just to the south. My wife, Ginger and I currently live in the Parkville area with our son, Thomas. We have been married since 2003. I chose to become a chiropractor while attending classes at the Rockhurst University here in Kansas City. I was enrolled in the physical therapy program and decided I needed to investigate other health careers. As it would happen, the very day I met with my academic advisor at Rockhurst I also had an appointment with our family Chiropractor. He and I talked about how similar the philosophy of Chiropractic was to my own views in health and that the body has the innate ability to heal itself without drugs or surgery.
After attending Rockhurst for 3 years I continued my education at Cleveland Chiropractic College in Kansas City and graduated in May 1997 with a Doctorate of Chiropractic degree. I was fortunate enough to have some amazing teachers in Chiropractic school who took a sincere interest in teaching the fine art and science that is Chiropractic. I earned several awards, among them are “Clinic Excellence Award,” and “Clinic Service Award”. I ventured out on my own and after practicing in Lee’s Summit for a few years I am now pleased to join Dr. Mark Swickard and his team.
Why do I feel compelled to share all this? If you first know my background I believe it will be easier for you to understand why I’m so committed to my goal for this great community. You see, I’ve seen many miraculous things in my chiropractic career. Babies suffering with ear infections and colic and their mothers struggling to find relief for their child. I’m a parent and I’ve been there. I have also seen the changes within families when one family member is challenged by a health condition or acute pain. As one family member heals, they all become well. I can only imagine the ripple effect this has on an entire community!
My mission is simple, to help as many people as possible live their lives to the fullest thanks to chiropractic! And I begin this mission with you. I would love nothing more than to support your family and friends in living a healthier life. If you, or someone you know, would like to learn more about how chiropractic can positively impact health please give me a call at 913-268-8300. I look forward to hearing from you!
Yours in Health,
Dr. Patrick O’Reilly
